Jerry White - Background I've lived a long life so my intro is kind of long too! In a long life of work and education, it is inevitable that one begins to look like those current predictions that we will all have three different vocations and 14 different jobs. My first sustained career was in congregation administration (some twelve years) which led to a Director of Development position with the local Chicago College of Jewish Studies (now Spertus College) for another four years. My Ph.D. in Adult Education and four years of seminary had prepared me for administration and program creation. In an interim career move I accepted an associate professorship teaching position (psychology) in the Chicago Junior College System (Malcolm X College). At the same time, Transactional Analysis emerged pioneered by Eric Berne (“Games People Play”), Thomas Harris (“I’m OK, You’re OK”), and Muriel James (“Born to Win”). Their books sold by the millions and this pioneer, powerful self-help psychology took the country by storm. I joined the ranks in the early pioneer days, became a Teaching Member, and soon found myself criss-crossing the country teaching workshops in two to four days doses at college extension divisions and for therapist/trainers. In some fifteen years I would teach some 30,000 attendees. Because much of my extensive graduate work was in psychology, I looked the part of a therapist/trainer (including the special field applications). The interest in TA waned as new psychological modalities came along and as TA theory and concepts became a part of the cosmopolitan outreach to the growing self-help market. (EST, NLP, The Inner Child foci, etc.) I had moved to northern California as my family matured and soon took roots in the burgeoning Silicon Valley. I trained more and more in new companies, and soon participated in the creation of two fairly successful companies. I devoted some thirteen years to the entrepreneurial whirlwind. Over the last fifteen years I have meandered through a series of small companies as an operations person, often coordinating much of the outsourcing relationships that have become much of what the production in the valley is about. Simultaneously, I searched for meaning for the next phase of my life, something akin to Bob Buford’s “Half Time.” I am very interested in creating a supportive outreach to the tens of millions of boomers/seniors who suddenly realize that they will live long, productive lives. I am interested in writing, coaching, training and teaching for the rest of my years and am very interested in networking with deliveries that are sympathetic. I bring to the table my commitment to the spiritual, my psychological insights, and an enormous energy. Inadvertently, I have become a “poster boy” for the vigorous senior life. My current outreach is to the tens of millions of people who write “blog-like” and use their e-mails or websites to publish their outreach. The amount of their weekly production far exceeds the production of the print publishing industry. Pundits observe that the total of hits that blog websites will have in a few years will exceed those of the “for profit” internet endeavors. I will write my three ”TA” essays and supply cooperating blog sites until for decades to come!
